What we have done, so far…
It’s hard to believe that it has been over a month since we voted to identify the seven individuals that will serve as our Senior Pastor Search Team. So, you may be wondering what those seven church members have been doing since the vote took place, March 28, and what the next few months look like.
On April 14, the team met for the first time to get better acquainted, elect a chairman, receive some general information from Brother Nick, and spend a little time in prayer with our pastor. Though the entire session was valuable, the time the team spent in prayer with Brother Nick was a very special and inspirational moment which served as a powerful first step in this journey of faith.
The meeting on the 14th was quickly followed by an all-day training session facilitated by Vanderbloemen Search Group, an organization that assists churches on key hires. It was during this extensive training session that the team concluded that they might need further prayer regarding the complexities of a professional search and whether or not they wanted to utilize other resources to assist them with the search.
What’s next? In the coming weeks, FBCBA’s Pastor Search Team will draft a position profile that will clearly outline doctrinal requirements along with other position expectations that will drive the initial search phase. We will also design and draft promotional tools to help tell the story of FBCBA. These may include things such as current and historical information, culture, strategic objectives, ministry goals, current church stats, and an informative snapshot of Broken Arrow and the community we are a part of.
In addition to these preliminary search initiatives, the Pastor Search Team is currently in the process of identifying several sub-committees that will focus on things such as prayer, communication, the welcoming of a new pastor and his family, and a fun, reflective, and celebratory retirement event for Pastor Nick and Jenine worthy of their 30+ years of faithful service here at FBCBA.
Your prayers are clearly being heard by the Almighty! If you were to talk to any of the Search Team members, they would probably tell you that, even though the journey has just begun, they have already experienced a deep and profound sense of God’s presence and clear evidence of the work of the Holy Spirit.
As we continue to trust in His Word to be “a lamp unto our feet,” we take heart in several key verses such as:
“Wait for the LORD: be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” Psalm 27:14
“For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6
“Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!” I Chronicles 16:11
